Six other group cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) programs will be offered as enrollment permits.  The committment of a minimum of 5 people will be required.  These programs will provide treatment for the following conditions:

Schedule
Start dates for these other group CBT programs are considered in the winter, spring and fall each year.  They will be held in sets of either 12 or 16, 2-hour, weekly sessions, from 7 to 9 PM.  If you have an interest in any of these groups or seminars, phone 881-1206 immediately to have your name added to the wait list.

Depression (12 sessions)

Feeling "down", disinterested and apathetic? Getting less pleasure out of doing things that would normallly please you? Perhaps you have noticed changes in your sleep or eating habits? Having trouble thinking through problems, and finding less to like about yourself? Try challenging some of those depressive thoughts, and fight the lethargy by getting active.  BACK top of page

 

Bipolar Disorder (16 sessions)

Do you have periods feeling sad and "down" followed by more excited or energetic moods? During the excited phase, are you uncharacteristically talkative, hyper and distractible? Perhaps you find that you are able to get by with much less sleep, or find it hard to resist doing things simply because they feel good? Learn how to master your mood cycles so that your life isn't quite so disrupted. BACK top of page

 

Early Schizophrenia (16 sessions)

Have you recently suffered your first psychotic experience and wish to reduce your chances of a repeat? Perhaps you've become increasingly confused in your thinking, have trouble getting going, and don't seem to feel good about anything? Family members getting on your case for not showering or dresing quite as spiffy as you might? Let us help you sort through these confusing and scarey changes. BACK top of page

 

Fears & Phobias (12 sessions)

Does your world seem to be getting smaller because you are afraid of going places you would normally go, or doing things you would normally do? Tired of being left behind? Don't think your family physician is taking your health concerns seriously enough? Perhaps you are the one who needs to change. You can, with the help of group CBT. BACK top of page

 

Body Distortions (12 sessions)

Have a concern about what seems to be a major defect in your appearance, while others say it's nothing to worry about? Can't stop thinking about a marking or a discoloration in your skin, or perhaps a part of you seems lopsided or misshapen? Tired of being tormented by self doubt and worry that other people will notice? Find a new mirror with group CBT. BACK top of page

 

Obsessions/Compulsions (16 sessions)

Suffering from persistent thoughts about contamination, doubts about having done something that might have hurt someone, or a need to have things in a particular order? Perhaps you try to neutralize these upsetting thoughts, images or impulses by performing repetitive behaviours? (Note: Repetive behaviours can include actions such as handwashing, or mental activities such as counting.) Group CBT can help! BACK top of page
